I'm currently doing the C4D to MD rountrip with an animated character. I've exported an Alembic animation from C4D, which opens fine in MD. When I finish and export the Alembic file from MD as either Ogawa or Hdf5, it will not open in C4D with C4d saying "Unable to read file".
Now it's possible that it's a c4d issue but I had another alembic file that I opened in C4d as a test and it opened fine.
I am running Cinema 4d R23 on a Mac and just downloaded the MD 11 trial.
My only guess is that maybe MD 11 is using a new version of Alembic? (If that exists) Cinema 4d's Alembic importer says its 1.7.14
Is the Marvelous Designer version I have too new for Cinema 4D R23? or could it be because I'm on the trial?
Hello LUNCHBQX,
Thank you for contacting us!
As for Alembic in Marvelous Designer 11, there's no change.
Could you share the file in question with us via support@marvelousdesigner.com for further inspection? Thank you!
Thank you for your response!
Luckily I have since found the solution. If this happens to any future designers, here was what worked for me.
You must export as alembic from C4D to MD. After your finished in MD, you must export as Alembic (Ogawa). In C4D, hit file > Merge Project > open your .abc file.
I had exported as .fbx from C4D and it opened fine in MD but for some reason any alembic exports from MD would not open in C4D.
Hello LUNCHBQX,
Thank you for getting back to us!
Could you explain the workflow that had a problem with the export in order for us to solve the issue?
I would appreciate it if you could also explain again the workflow of exporting that worked.
Thank you!
I Had this exact problem! Thank you so much LUNCHBQX. It's worked for me :)
